Starting up in business

There are many issues to address when starting a business, including:

  • A business plan;
  • Business structure, e.g. sole trader, partnership, LLP, company;
  • Tax and national insurance implications;
  • Consider VAT registration (may be required or even beneficial);
  • Raising finance;
  • Assessing the risks involved;
  • Compliance with regulations and laws;
  • Insurance requirements;
  • Most appropriate record keeping system.

You may find it helpful to read our factsheets for people starting businesses before arranging an appointment with us to discuss your plans.

Whatever structure you choose, we can help with the initial set up and form filling requirements and register your business and yourself with HMRC, including important online services.

If you decide to form a company to run your business, we can set up a new company to your specifications using our computer software. The company will usually be formed the next business day and the statutory records downloaded into our system, so that these records can be maintained and future filing requirements sent online directly to Companies House.
